Guwahati: The six prime accused arrested in the connection with the attack on Batadrava police station have been sent to four-day police custody.

The police have detained as many as 22 people and arrested six persons including two women for setting the police station on fire and destroying important case files.

They were sent to police custody after police produced them in court on Monday.

The arrested persons were identified as Mujibur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam, Anwar Hussain, Rashida Khatun, Sabina Khatun (minor), and Anwar Hussain.

The assault came after a person named Safiqul Islam, who was allegedly picked up by police, reportedly died while being in custody at Batadrava police station.

A furious mob of men and women were seen storming the Batadrava police station in the visuals which surfaced online. The angry mob took the law into their own hands when they assaulted a couple of policemen who were on duty and set the police station on fire.

Meanwhile, Assam Special Director General of Police (DGP), Law and Order, GP Singh on Sunday said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to investigate the attack on Batadrava police station.

Singh who visited the police station took the stock of the situation and also asserted that people involved in this crime will be dealt with strictly under the law.

''Seven people have been arrested while 15 people have been detained in connection with the attack on Batadraba police station. SIT will be formed in the matter,'' said Singh while addressing the media.

He also informed that Jihadis could be behind this attack and an investigation with this angle will also be conducted to find out if any such links.
